In a previous post I mentioned a sweet gig I had playing bass in a band for a Cub Scouts get-together. In being a fair critic, I thought it would only be right for me to present a review of our performance:

The Skinny: Me and a few fellas from my church were asked – for the second year in a row! – to play about an hour’s worth of tunes for a Cub Scout dinner.

The Good: For going into it totally cold with absolutely no rehearsal, we sounded halfway decent. I even heard one guy clap once. Our set list included some of the following:

  • Horse with No Name
  • Takin’ Care of Business
  • Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door
  • Wipeout
  • If I Had a Million Dollars
  • Sweet Home Alabama

The Bad: For every person that seemed to be enjoying the music, there was one who looked bored, confused, sad, or even downright angry…like they just wanted us to go away.

The Ugly: Not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing, but the act that followed us was Magic Brad, who’s performed for the likes of Dr. Ruth, Sigfried and Roy, and…Cub Scout troops.

The Bottom Line: All things considered, it went better than I expected.
